"Merlin's Secret Grotto" By Meg S, Age 9, Class 3

********************************
Merlin’s Secret Grotto

All was silent. Merlin, the powerful Sorcerer slowly poured his magical Moon dust into his cauldron and gently began to stir. As he carried on stirring he noticed he was being watched by Prince Arthur. Merlin felt worried, because if Arthur told the King he would KILL HIM! The King hates magic and kills sorcerers and sorceresses who use magic.
Arthur listens to his father, because Arthur wants to become a great ruler.
******
Merlin quickly took away the moon dust and cauldron and hid them behind a boulder. “Why are you spying on me” asked Merlin deeply.
“I’m not” said Arthur “I’m looking for some bits of rock.”
“What kind of rock?”
“Oh, you know…..ummm….some bits of boulder.”
“Why do you need some bits of boulder?”
“Dad said I could camp outside the palace tonight, because it’s my Birthday in two weeks time. I need it to make a fire.”
“Well why don’t you camp in two weeks time then!”
“Because two of the knights are having a huge battle that night!… Oh look there’s a boulder that will do perfectly!”
So Arthur ran excitedly towards the boulder standing next to Merlin. OH NO!!!! That was the boulder Merlin used to hide his cauldron and moon dust! What would happen if Arthur told the King?! Merlin could be executed!
“MERLIN!” shouted Arthur unexpectedly and angrily as he saw the cauldron and moon dust. “You’re a sorcerer, I have known you all my life and still you have never told me! You practice magic, I’m going to tell dad and he is going to put your fat little head on the chopping block!”

The next morning (Arthur was right) Merlin’s head was ready to be placed on the chopping block. But Arthur really wished he hadn’t told the King about Merlin’s powers. He loved Merlin like a grandfather. Merlin had known him ever since his birth. It was fifteen minutes till the execution, That means fifteen minutes to think of a plan to stop Merlin from being killed. After five minutes of thinking he finally got a plan into his head! So Arthur ran to the king and told him what he thought. The King thought it was spectacular! He told the guards not to bother with the execution and told them Arthur’s idea. So the guards helped and made Merlin his very own secret grotto so he could do his magic! On one condition. He only does magic in the grotto.

'The Dragon Princess' by Jade M, Age 10, Class 3

*********************************
The Dragon Princess

Once upon a time in a far away land, hidden away in the surroundings there was a small old ancient village. In the village there was a beautiful temple, called The Dragon Temple.

This is where the villagers came to worship their goddess The Dragon Princess and they also worshiped her dragon that they called… The Blue Scaled Dragon because legend has it, that it had magnificent sparkling blue scales.

One day in the Dragon Temple an old man that the village called The Dragon Man was in the temple praying, he worshiped the Dragon Princess and her Dragon day and night, he was very loyal. Suddenly children ran in screaming and shouting.
“Stop that at once!” the dragon man shouted.
“Why should we? The Dragon Princess is no use to us!” one of the children said putting her hands on her hips and looking very smug.
“What are your names? Children,”
“Well I’m Mark and that’s Tim and that girl there she’s Emmy,” one of the other children said pointing to his friends.
“Well Mark, Tim and Emmy would you like to hear the story of the Dragon Princess and her magnificent blue scaled dragon?” the old man asked.
“Yes please,” two of the children said.
“And you, Emmy?” the man asked smiling.
“I have better things to do, than listen to old fairy tales!” Emmy shouted.
“Just stay and listen for a bit,” the man said smiling. So the little girl sat down and started to tap her foot. “Let’s start then, once upon a time in this very village there lived a Dragon.”
“What the blue scaled dragon?” one of the boys asked.
“Yes it was the blue scaled dragon, so anyway the dragon lived in this temple but one night the dark spirits got into the temple and weaved itself inside the dragon's heart. That night at exactly midnight the villagers were woken by the dragon, the dragon was burning the villagers houses and huts, he crushed the shops and burnt the park. Then suddenly from the flames and smoke a black haired beautiful young girl walked through into the middle of the village and stopped. Then all was silent, no screaming, no shouting, no noise at all. The dragon looked up at the beautiful girl and the girl looked straight into its eyes. Everybody was silent, they just stood there looking back and forth at the dragon and the black haired girl. Then she stopped looking into the dragons eyes and looked around her, looked at all the villagers standing around her then shut her eyes and she disappeared… and she had took the blue scaled dragon with her. A couple of days later everything was back to normal. A little boy walked into the temple and screamed, his mother came running, “What is wrong?” she asked, but the little boy did not answer, he just looked straight ahead and stared with his mouth wide open. Slowly the mother looked up to see… a massive statue of the Dragon Princess and the Blue Scaled Dragon. “Oh my goodness!” the mother shouted. Everyone came running to see what was the matter. For a few minutes everyone was just silent and just stared at the massive statue. “What is it?” a man asked. “I think it is the dragon and the young black haired girl,” a women said. Then suddenly the black haired young girl appeared, beneath her feet she had brought gifts, wonderful gifts. She had brought, lots of different foods from all over the world, a most wonderful blanket with all the countries in the world and lots of golden statues of her and her dragon. She said, “Eat the food to keep you healthy, use the blanket to keep you warm and melt or keep the golden statues, so you are wealthy.

Ever since that day we have worshiped the Dragon Princess and the Blue Scaled Dragon, even now, every 100 years the Dragon Princess brings us the same beautiful presents.” The dragon man finished.
“Does that mean the Dragon Princess is still alive?” Emmy asked.
“Yes, they live somewhere in the mountains, where no one goes,” the dragon man said, “Now I think it is time for you to go.” The man said as he stood up. All the children got up and stretched their legs then walked off in separate directions back to their houses, when Emmy looked back at the temple she saw… the Dragon Princess and beneath her feet, well what do you think? The same wonderful presents. She looked away for only a couple of seconds and when she looked back she was gone!

'The Never Ending Nightmare' by Jade M, Age 10, Class 3

A belated scary story but it could also be classed as recounted family history as this is a dream that a member of Jade's family repeatedly had when young.

The Never Ending Night Mare.

One stormy and rainy night a little boy called Stephen was having a very restless night. He finally got to sleep but… he was having a nightmare! The nightmare went like this, he was with his Mum, Auntie and his three sisters and he was the only boy there because his dad left when he was two, so Stephen and the girls where walking down a subway when suddenly Stephen stopped moving! He was walking but not going any where, all the others where walking ahead and other girls were walking ahead but… he was not! Then he saw the reason why he was not walking ahead… there was a big sign saying, “GIRLS ONLY” in big bold letters “Come back! Come back Mum!” But his mum could not hear him, for nights and nights Stephen was stuck in that nightmare! And people say that he still is there, in that horribly nightmare!

'The House' by Jade M, Age 10, Class 3

****************************
The House

In Dorset, at number 54, Elm Street there lived a little girl called Jane Mallarie. One day Jane was in her bedroom looking for her laptop when… the lights went off.
“Mum, why are the lights off?” Jane asked.
“Just a power cut Jane!” Her mum shouted.
When the lights came on Jane looked around, she was not in her bedroom she was in the hallway! But the hallway did not look normal, instead of purple carpets and bright orange walls, there was old wooden floor boards and dark green walls. “But how? what has happened to my house?” Jane said to herself. Well the thing is Jane’s house is very old, it was actually built in Victorian times! Suddenly she heard foot steps coming from around the corner, “Mum, Mum is that you?” Jane whispered.
“Oh Jane, there you are! Come on, come on we have chores to do.” It was a lady dressed in old fashion clothes. “Why are you wearing those clothes? They are awful!” the lady said as she gave her an orange frilly dress! “Go and put that on, then go and give Mr Philippe his morning paper. Come on get moving.” Jane walked off and went into the bathroom and put her dress on, when she came out she looked at the news paper, “1842!” Jane shouted as she read the date, she chucked the newspaper onto the table and ran to the third room on the left, her room! She opened the door to see… nothing! “There’s nothing here, just lots and lots of old Victorian books!” Jane shouted.
Then suddenly the door slammed shut, Jane ran over to the door and tried to open it, but it had been locked. “Hello! Hello is anyone there? I’m locked in, please open the door!” Jane cried. Suddenly the room started to get smaller and smaller till it was so small that she could hardly breath! But suddenly the room started to get bigger again till it was the size that it was before, then the door unlocked and flung open and there was a bright light, the light was so bright that it blinded Jane for a couple of seconds then the light disappeared and there standing in it’s place was the strange Victorian lady, “Come on get a move on, you have got to get home.” The lady said as she winked at her!
“What did you just say?” Jane asked, looking very confused.
The lady just smiled, then walked off, “Oh yes, you might want to look in the kitchen, if you want to get back!” She shouted. Jane ran down the stairs and into the kitchen, then a little girl with yellow ribbons in her hair came into the kitchen picked up a black and ginger cat and skipped off. A second later the girl poked her head round the door and said, “Look for the door.”
“The door, what door!” Jane thought to herself. She looked all over the kitchen till she found… a small round door, only big enough for a mouse to fit through, “But how am I suppose to get through there?” She said.
“But you do not understand Jane, you only have to put a small piece of your body through the door to find your way out!” a voice said.
Jane thought for a moment, then shouted out… “My hand! That’s it my hand!” so she put her hand inside the hole and when she pulled it back out… there sitting proudly on Jane’s hand was a... key! She poked the key in to the door and the door opened, then opening a bigger door, then opening a big enough door for her to fit through, slowly Jane stepped through the door and looked back at the old Victorian kitchen and there standing in the door way was, the strange Victorian lady and the little Victorian girl with yellow ribbons in her hair, they smiled and waved and when Jane looked around she was back in her bedroom, the door shut, then locked, then disappeared!
Jane smiled and reached for her laptop, opened it up and wrote the perfect Victorian school report, “My House Was a Victorian House.” She wrote about the clothes that they wore (the orange frilly dress), the houses that they lived in (the old wooden floor boards and the dark green walls) and the people in the house (Mr Philippe’s, the little girl with yellow ribbons in her hair and the strange Victorian lady who must have been a maid!). She never forgot the day she went back in time, when she went into a real Victorian house.

'The Blood in the Crack' by Jade M, Age 10, Class 3

...........................................

The Blood in The Crack

Lucy had just came back from school. She ran inside her house and up into her bedroom, then her mum, Mrs Kirt shouted out, “Lucy, me and your father are going to your Uncle Dan’s house, would you like to come?”
“No thanks mum, I am going to stay at home,” Lucy replied.
“Well stay in the house and don’t answer the door or the phone!” Her mother said firmly as she shut the door.
Lucy ran down and locked the door behind her parents and then went and shut all the windows, but she though forgot to shut one… the old upstairs bathroom window! You see, people say that Lucy’s house is haunted… because 1 old man drowned in that very upstairs bathroom in that very bath, 25 years ago and the worst thing is… the bath was never replaced!
Lucy went back into her bedroom and jumped on her bed, she grabbed her book, 'Halloween Haunted Story’s. They will haunt you forever.' And started to read it. She started to read the 6th story when… “BANG!” Lucy looked up and slowly put down her book, it had came from the upstairs bathroom! Lucy stepped out of her bed and opened her bedroom door, then very, very slowly looked out and there in her bathroom was the open window, then suddenly… “BANG!” lightning had struck!
Lucy ran down stairs and into the kitchen and picked up the phone, she dialled her dads phone number and turned around to see… a real life ghost! Lucy dropped the phone and then “BANG!” lightning had struck again, at that moment Lucy fainted and hit her head on the cupboard and she was knocked out.
When Lucy woke up she was in her bed, she opened her eyes to see… the ghost, she jumped up and ran straight through the ghost and out the door, she ran down the stairs tripping over every step in fear! She quickly tried to unlock the door, but that was hard as her hands where shaking and so was her body. She looked around her shoulder and saw the ghost coming closer and closer to her. She unlocked the door and ran outside over the wet slippery slate and into the woods! When she got deep into the woods she stopped to breath, then suddenly the bush moved and started to shake.
“Hello, hello is any one there?” Then out leaped a… little ginger tabby cat! “Oh, it’s just a little old cat! You scared me there.” Then out came from behind the cat… the ghost! “You're, you’re the old man that died in our bath 25 years ago!” Lucy said.
“But I didn’t drown! Your grandfather drowned me! And now you are going to pay!” The ghost shouted.
“Noooo!” She said and ran off deeper into the woods, but to her surprise… she found an old cracked path. “This must lead out of the woods somehow!” Lucy shouted. So she followed the path, running as fast as she could looking back over her shoulder looking at the ghost, who was getting nearer and nearer! “Ha, ha, ha!” the Ghost cried. But then suddenly the path got wet and slippery and… Lucy slipped over and landed on her front, but only to see a big crack in the old path, filled with… blood. And then Lucy heard a voice in her ear, “Your grandfather was always jealous of me, that’s why he done it, that’s why he drowned me that stormy night, but now… this stormy night, it is going to be a Kirt that dies!” “Ahhhh!” Lucy screamed and she was never, ever seen again!

'The Cat and the Mouse' by Georgina B, Age 10, Class 3

THE CAT AND THE MOUSE

One fine sunny day a cat was curled up on a rug by the fire place. "Hey where are you!" The cat woke up and then a girl came in and picked the cat up. This girl loved animals and loved the cat infact she loved the cat so much she even dressed it up in clothes! This cat was a boy called Tom and did not enjoy being dressed up or tantalised by the little girl.

One other hot day the girl was going to the beach. Tom saw the picnic basket on the floor and walked over to it and jumped inside because he had always wanted to go to the beach.
When they arrived at the beach the girl went off to the sea with her mum so this was a chance for Tom to enjoy his first day at the beach! Tom lay out a towel on the golden sand and lay down to relax. Suddenly he started to laugh. Something was tickling him! Tom looked up and on his tummy was a little white mouse! Tom jumped up and threw the mouse in the sea and lay back down because nothing or no one was going to ruin his first day on the beach!

A while later the little girl came back and Tom got back into the basket getting ready to go back home. Tom had not seen a sight of the mouse and was very glad. When they got back home Tom got out of the basket and walked over to the fire place and there on the rug was the mouse! And the same one!

Dear diary
I was watching the sky and I saw a flash! I watched carefully and I saw it again!
I ran inside to see my mum cooking tea.
"Mum!" I said in a panic "Come outside the sky the sky!" I was still in shock and I was shaking. First my mum just ignored me but then I finally got her out in the garden. She looked up and slowly she told me to go inside. And that night St. Mill (Where I lived) was never seen again........Or me!

Of course I did not believe this but inside me somewhere I could tell I was worried. No one ever went to the loo since this happened and I was in class bursting to go one day! I slowly went up to Mr Buds desk and asked him if I could go to the loo. Everyone looked at me in shock but I was too desperate to sit back down. So I went in the loo sat down and........ "AHHH!" 'The Black and White Cat' by Jade M, Age 10, Class 3

****************************

The Black and White Cat
.
A black and white cat jumped onto my garden wall and then walked along it proudly like it owns the place! I, me, little old Jenny Tay went inside and called for my brother
“Mike, mike come quick there is a really cute cat on top on the garden wall and I want you to get it down for me! Mike come on!” I said as I tugged at his arm.
“Ok, ok I am coming, I am coming!” He said.
.
When we ran out side I saw the cute black and white cat and shouted, “There it is get it Mike, get it!”
“Where, where I do not see it!” He shouted back looking all around.
“There it is silly, right there,” I said pointing to it.
“What do you mean Jenny there is nothing there!” Mike said confused.
“I do not understand! It’s there right there…” Then I felt a sharp pain in my foot and I heard a voice in my ear it said, “Hush little girl you do not want your brother thinking your mad! Ha, ha, ha! The cat is there you are just the only one who can see it! You see, Magic here has chosen you!”
“Chosen me for what?”
“Hush little girl, hush you will very soon find out! Ha, ha, ha!”
I slowly walked into the house looking back at the cat, but the third time I looked back… the cat was gone! That night I could not sleep, I could not stop thinking about the sudden sharp pain in my foot, the strange voice in my ear and the black and white cat only I could see! Then I heard a, “Meow, meow!” outside my window, maybe it is the cute black and white cat, Magic! I slowly pulled back the curtain and looked out of the window, there she was Magic my Magic! I opened the window and let Magic in. “Hello, Magic,” I said and then went to pick her up. Then I got another sudden sharp pain in my foot! And so one can not come with out the other, then came the voice in my ear! “Little girl.. do not touch her! Ha, ha, ha!” Then the voice stopped and I stepped back from Magic.
The next night when I went to sleep Magic would not be quiet! “Meow! Meow!” Magic then went on!
“Magic please be quiet!" Then all was silent, I sat up and looked around. The window was open and Magic had gone!
I ran to the open window and shouted, “Magic where are you, please Magic come back! I did not mean to shout. Please come back magic… you’re the only friend I have!”
Then the sudden pain came again and then the voice, “The only friend you have, well maybe you should treat her a little bit better!”
“Yes, yes I will!”
“Well… ok then, you can have her back but next time she’s not going to come back! Now sleep little girl and she will be there in the morning. Ha, ha, ha!” I got back in bed and went to sleep, just like the voice told me to.
The next morning I went downstairs for breakfast. “Morning Jenny,” My Mum said “And how are you today?”
“Fine thank you Mum just got to bed late.” Then I had the sudden pain in my foot and then came the voice, “Late night! More like Magic kept you awake all night with her Meow’s and Moan’s! Go on little girl tell them, tell them about Magic, tell them how only you can see her! Ha, ha, ha! Go on tell them… little girl!”
“My name is Jenny Tay!” I shouted out loud then ran off.
“Oh, Jenny dear what is the matter with you?” My Mum asked.
“Nothing, just leave me alone!” I shouted back. I ran up the stairs and into my bedroom I buried my face into my pillow and started to cry! “Everything has gone wrong!” I shouted.
“Meow!” Magic went as she jumped up on to my bed.
“Oh go away Magic! It is all your thought! All of this is you and your sudden pains in my foot, you and that voice, that horrible, horrible voice!” I shouted out and then cried again. When I looked around at Magic she shut her eyes and then disappeared! “Good, I am glad you are gone! All you have brought me is misery!” I screamed at the open window.
Then came the pain and then the voice “You have really pushed it now little girl, she will not come back and now you will be sorry… because you have upset the Witches Black and White Cat! Ha, ha, ha!”
“Are you the… the… witch?”
"Well indeed I am, little girl.”
“My name is Jenny Tay!” I shouted.
“Well Jenny Tay, yes I am the Witch and Magic is my cat and she is controlled by me, every breath she takes, every step she walks and every meow she meow’s, they are all controlled by me. You know, if I wanted to… I could stop her from taking a breath or even two or even three or even… none at all! Do you want me to do that? Do you want me to kill her?”

“No, no please she does not deserve to die!”
“Yes I know, she does not. She did not want to meow all through the night, she did not want to leave you, she is a nice little cat in side, deep, deep, inside!”
“Why are you doing this to me, why are you doing this to Magic?” I shouted out.
“Oh well… because Magic chose you, she chose you to help her,”
“Help her do what, help her do what?”
“Well free her of course! Silly! Now it is time for you to make a choice of your own! You can either… leave Magic and be a free child but the guilt of Magic’s suffering will live in your heart forever! Or Magic can be free to live a normal life and be loved but you would be trapped in a magical prison far, far away… forever! The choice is yours, Miss Jenny Tay,”
“Forever! But I do not want to be trapped in a prison forever! But I want Magic to be happy,” At that moment I saw Magic’s big green emerald eyes and all I saw was unhappiness. I could not take it any more! “Magic can live a happy and loving life and I shall have to stay in a magical prison… forever.”
“Ah Jenny Tay, very kind indeed, it is now the fact if I will let Magic go after all! Ha, ha, ha!” “No!!!” I shouted out and with that I was there, I was in the magical prison, it was just a cave but when I felt the air it felt of dark magic. I never knew if the old witch let Magic free, I hope she did! But the thing is I never saw her face, but when I looked into Magic’s eyes, the pain and unhappiness that I saw, trapped my heart right there… right then.
.
You see, Little Jenny Black made that choice because she knew she could not take it, she knew she could not take a life of guilt. She is still out there in that magical prison, trapped there forever! No one does know if the little old witch let poor Magic go, that is one mystery that will not be solved.
The End.

'Tap Dancing Skeletons' by Jade M, Age 10, Class 3

......................................................

Tap Dancing Skeletons!

1898 and a big horse
And cart came past my bedroom
It had in big letters:
Tap Dancing Skeletons
Meet Them bone to bone!

Everyone knew they were just
Men in suits but... were they?
You see me and my little sister
We thought maybe they were
Real Skeletons from out of space!

Ah the thought of it makes me...
Well scared! So all the children
Were running alone beside the
Cart jumping up and down
Trying to see the so called
Skeletons!

So what I did was run down stairs
Out the door and caught up with
The cart I looked all over it trying to
Find a lower window or hole in the
Cart but the only one I found was
At the front of the Cart!

I weaved myself through the horses
Long old legs and then put my eye
To the hole... guess what I saw!
Nothing I got caught in one of the horses
Legs and got trampled on.

But the good thing is I got 3 weeks
Off school! Cool! But I had to spend
That time in Hospital and they had yucky
Chicken rolls!

But you know what... you know what!
I did see something through the hole
You know what they were not even skeletons...
They were GHOSTS!

'Me and the Witch' by Jade M, Age 10, Class 3

............................................

Me and the Witch

The witch turned round
And then lifted her wand
And said these words
In a witchlike scary way!

" You little boy with the hat
And such a sweet smile
You should know by now
Not to come to the witches cave!"

"I am sure all your friends have told you straight
What happens to children like you
The ones who walk into the Witches cave
They don't come back!"

"Hah, hah, hah!"
The witch cried out then began to speak
But not speak of normal words but
A spell!

"Little boy, you have been naughty today
So now I have to turn you into a toad
Or would you prefer a frog!"

"Please little old witch do not hurt me
I have done no harm
I don't want to be a toad
Or a Frog in fact!"

"So little boy, you don't want to be a Frog
In fact maybe a rat!
Definately Not a Toad
So you will have to be a...
Mole!"

Then the witch turned around
To cast the spell on me
But I was gone and down the hill
FAR, FAR away!

Stay away from the Big Creepy House!

Every room is filled with bugs
And Creep Crawly's too
Big Spiders and Centipedes
That will eat you!

'Young Tom Black' by Jade M, Age 10, Class 3

--------------------------------------

Young Tom Black

As the little boy felt the cold wet hand grab his shoulder he screamed out loud.
"What was that?" The other children whispered.
"I'm... I'm scared!" Lucy the smallest child shouted.
"Where's Tom?" Max cried out, "He... he... he's gone!" He shouted again.
"Help! Help me!" The same voice cried out again.
"Now I am really scared!" Lucy shouted.
The other children walked slowly through the big heavy wooden doors and into a dark small room where the hat of the young Tom Black lay on the floor.
"That's Tom's hat, isn't it?" One of the children said.
"Do you think he's... dead!" Max muttered.
"No of course he isn't!" Mary the oldest of the children said.
Then everything went black and there was three loud high pitched screams and then the light came back on and there was just one child standing in the room, little poor Lucy all along in dark little room. She went running to the door but it was locked! "Help, help me! Somebody help me!" Lucy shouted and then started to bang on the big wooden door.
"No one can help us Lucy." A small shivering voice cried out, "We're trapped here forever and soon you will be like me!" Lucy turned around and saw little Tom Black but not as normal, he was a ghost!

'Elizabeth' by Jade M, Age 10, Class 3

The following story written by Jade M in class 3, reminds us that not all things scary involve fantasy and monsters. In this story the character 'Elizabeth' has to deal with some frightening and difficult events.

Elizabeth.

Hello my name is Elizabeth and this is the story of how I got to find my Mum. I’m not a real person I am a made up character for this story. I lived in a family of eight and am the second youngest. I am the only girl and have seven brothers. Mum has left us but we don’t know why she just left and Dad was left to look after us but he doesn’t really. Auntie Jill looked after us most of the time because Dad went to work at 6 o’clock in the morning and returned at 11 o’clock in the evening. Auntie Jill gave most of her attention to my little brother Michael. Michael is three years old and was just two when Mum left, he doesn’t remember much about her any more. It’s been one year since Mum has left and life is different now, we went everywhere with Mum, the Zoo on Sunday on Thursday we went to the farm and Monday the park, or was it Tuesday I can’t remember none of us can any more.
It was a nice day and all of us where outside playing bulldog when suddenly it started to rain we went inside and played cards Michael played with his toy car and I went upstairs to my room and started to draw, draw happy pictures of me and mum. The next morning Dad was at home he said he had a surprise for us. He said we were going on holiday, I had never been on holiday before neither had Michael. He said we were going to Scotland, my older half brother James had been to Scotland with his mum he said he saw the Lock Ness monster but none of us believe him.
The next morning we went to the airport it took about two hours to get there, I continued drawing happy pictures. When we got to Scotland we went to the hotel we were staying at, there was one big family room and two others, Dad had his own room Michael slept with me and the boys slept in the family room. We went down stairs to dinner we all had a menu each I chose the stew of the day, it was disgusting! I don’t know what day the soup was made, but I guess two weeks ago. I went back up to my room before the others, I took Michael with me and put him to bed. Then I sat down on my bed and got changed into my PJ’s then I heard a strange noise. At first I thought it was just Michael but then I realised it was coming from under my bed, I looked I could not see very clearly at first because it was dark. Then I realised what I was staring at was a rabbit, a small ginger rabbit. My brain the clever part of me was telling me to go back down stairs and tell the others but my heart was telling me to keep it and look after it, I did not know what to do. Then I remembered what Mum said to me the night she left she told me to always follow my heart, so I did. I got a old shoe box I had found in the drawers, I got Dad’s newspaper and ripped it up into little pieces then put it in the box. Then I got a sharp pencil and put some holes in the box with it, then I put the ginger rabbit in the box and put it under my bed. I got into bed and went to sleep.
That night I had a dream that mum came back everyone was so happy but then Dad started to shout at Mum, Mum went to the door and left us again Dad shut the door firmly and locked it then I woke up. I got out of bed and looked in the mirror I had tears running down my face, I got back into bed and looked at my clock it was 2:00 in the morning I tried to get to sleep it took me half an hour to actually get back to sleep.
I woke up at 8:32 I jumped out of bed and got the shoe box out I looked inside it was empty, I searched the room then I heard Michael giggling I went over to his bed he was sitting there with the little ginger rabbit saying funny bunny, funny, funny bunny. Michael always calls me Izzie instead of Lizzie and he said to me Izzie Mummy loves bunnies! Then I remembered Mum did love rabbits I felt like crying again but I did not. When I had pulled myself together I took the small ginger rabbit off Michael but he started to cry. Then I heard Dad coming up to the door, then he shouted out Elizabeth is Michael crying, um no that’s the cat outside. “Oh, ok!” shouted Dad again. I gave Michael his soft toy he loves it Mum gave it to him, it’s about the only thing his got to remember her by. It was Mums when she was little at one time I had it, well as a baby we all had it. I got dressed and took Michael down stairs then met Dad and the boys for breakfast.
“Elizabeth we are going to go to a nature reserve today and rocky beach.” Said her Dad. “Do we have to Dad ?” Moaned my brothers. “Yes.” said Dad. I ate my breakfast and went back up stairs and checked on the small ginger rabbit then put her coot on got my purse then went back down stairs and waited for her Dad and her Brothers. When we got there we all got in the rented car and we all drove to the nature reserve.
At the nature reserve we saw lots of different animals and plants and the only thing that the boys were interested in was the gift shop but I was fascinated by the lizards. When the boys had went to the gift shop and my brothers had nearly bought half of the shop with dad’s money we went to rocky beach. It was a windy and cold day and the boys just wanted to go home back to the hotel, I took Michal down to the sea and looked for pretty shells or pebbles. When dad was fed up with the boys moaning we went back to the hotel.
We had some lunch and I took some carrot and green beans for the rabbit that I named Lillie, which was my mum’s name. We all really miss her and are worried but we don’t even know if she’s alive. When I was finished with my lunch I went up stairs and feed Lillie. Michael stayed down stairs with dad while the boys played outside with Ollie, oh I haven’t told you about Ollie our dog we got him four years ago from the RSPCA. He’s a lovely golden haired spaniel with pale blue sparkle eyes and golden floppy ears. I love him the boys love him and mum loved him but Dad just is not that fond of animals. Auntie Gill loves animals and is always saying to Dad, why not get another dog or, or a rabbit or a guinea pig. If mum was here, she would just get one with out running it through with dad.
I went down and went outside and started to play with Ollie and my brothers. Then Dad called us in he said to start packing because we had to go… We didn’t know why but he sounded serious so I went up stairs and started to pack mine and Michal’s stuff, when I had finished I got the Old shoe box out and gave Lillie some food then cello taped the box and the lid together and went outside with the suit cases and the shoe box. “ Quickly now ” Dad said in a worried voice “ Come on now lets go to the airport ” Said dad again.
When we got to the airport we quickly got on the plane and I asked the lady serving the drinks were I could put my rabbit. She said that I could put her with the other pets and Ollie in the back of the plane.
When we landed Dad hurried us all out and Auntie Gill was waiting for us in her car. We all got in Auntie Gill’s tiny little car I had to have Michael on my lap, I felt like moaning and groaning but I didn’t I knew something serious was going on. On the way back Auntie Jill and Dad were talking about stuff, stuff that didn’t make sense, Auntie Jill kept saying “Oh it was terrible just terrible just terrible, oh just, just terrible.” And Dad was saying, “No, no, no, no, la, ah, la, la I’m not listening! ”
When we got home Auntie Jill and Dad ran to the front door and opened it followed by me and then Michael, “What’s happened!” I screamed. “Oh no.” Michael said. “ It’s terrible!” Dad Shouted. Then all at once the boys came charging in and all at once screamed like little girls. I walked into the front room there was scattered glass every where, I looked around the room and then I saw from the corner of my eye a piece of paper, or a letter. I quickly picked the letter up and ran into my room. I sat dawn on my bed. But my bedroom wasn’t trashed like down stairs! I read the letter and this it what it said…

Give me my children.

That’s all it said give me my Children.

Then I saw another letter on my dressing table I went over and saw what it said…

To my darling Elizabeth,
I hope you are ok, and are well. How is Michael and the other boys? You know I miss you all very much and wish I could see you again but I know your father would not let you.

Lots of love Mum.

P.S Please write to me- 73 Arch Lane, Surry, Croydon, London CRO 7PV.

I nearly cried, Arch Lane, only round the corner from my house. Then I started to cry, Tommy came in and asked me what was the matter. I showed him the letter from Mum. “Don’t cry about it Elizabeth, it’s just someone very cruel and nasty playing a horrid joke on us.” Tommy said. No it isn’t, no it isn’t, it isn’t, it isn’t! It’s Mum and I know it is I know it’s MUM! I shouted at him and then started to cry even louder. “Shosh, shosh, shosh, if Dad hears you he will come up here and if he sees the letter then he will be furious!” He said. I really do not care I just want to see Mum!
That night when everyone had went to bed I started to pack my stuff in my back pack and then put on my shoes and coat and carefully creeped out of my bedroom, down the stairs and out of the door. I walked up to Arch Lane and knocked on door number 73, I saw a light turn on in the top room and then heard someone coming down the stairs I braced myself and stood up straight, then a Man opened the door, I looked at him and then ran off back home up the stairs and into my bed.
The next morning I was woke up by some one knocking on the door, I went down stairs nobody else was up I put the kettle on then yawned and went to open the door. I opened it and looked up at the tall brunette haired woman she smiled at me and said my name, I looked up at her again, Mum? I asked she smiled once more, Mum, Mum, MUM! I hugged her and started to cry oh Mum I’ve missed you so much I said. We can run away! I’ll go and get Michael and I’ll pack my bags, then, then, then we can go and live in Canada that’s what you wanted Mum, that’s what you wanted! “Elizabeth darling your going too far, your Father still hates me!” She said. He doesn’t, he’ll understand why you left! Wait a minute… why, did you leave? “Elizabeth, you know sometimes people just need a break from stuff, well that what I needed.” Mum said.
“Elizabeth, who’s that?” Dad shouted from his bed room. Nobody Dad! I shouted up the stairs. Quick Mum you have to go! “I’ll see you soon sweetie!” Mum said.
I shut the door and ran upstairs. I got Tommy out of bed and told him who I had been speaking to and told him my plane… I told him that we would invite Dad and Mum to the same Dinner Party and then we would be a big happy family again. So Tommy gave Mum an invitation and I gave Dad an invitation as well. When Dad got back we all looked up at him smiling, he looked at us and then went up to his bed room. I waited a couple of minutes then I went upstairs and knocked on Dads bedroom door, I went in and asked him how it went. He told me that really all they had to do was sit down and talk to each over and me and Tommy had helped them do that!
The next morning Mum came round to have breakfast with us, it was just like before, you know, when we were one big happy family just like my happy drawings! A year on and we moved to beautiful Cornwall. Everyone was happy Mum and Dad got a new, better job, all of the boys actually got on for once, it turns out that Ollie was actually a Olivia and she had 11 cute beautiful puppies and me, well me… I feel like the most happiest little girl in the world!!!

'The Toad and the Cat in the Teapot' by Meg S, Age 9, Class 3

THE FROG AND THE CAT IN THE TEAPOT

Once upon a time there was a lady who loved cats! Big cats, little cats, she just loved cats! One day, she let out all her cats for a run around the garden. The lady’s favourite cat Silky, went to have a drink in the pond as usual and when she started drinking, she heard a “Help, help” coming from the hose. “That’s funny” thought Silky “ Hoses don’t talk!” And after a long time of thinking, she realised that there must be someone in the hose! So, Silky looked through a hole in the hose and saw a little frog. “What are you doing in there?” Silky asked. “It’s a long story” said the frog quietly “I’ll tell you when someone gets me out!” Silky helped the frog and the frog explained why he was in the hose. “I was playing hide and seek” he began “and it was my turn to hide and I thought this would be a good hiding place but I got stuck and I am very hungry!” Well, why didn’t you say so?!” asked Silky “Come with me”. So Silky lead the frog to the kitchen and sat him down at the table. She got the enormous, old tea pot and sat it on the table with some bread and honey. Silky lifted up the tea pot and removed the lid to pour in the water but she fell in! The frog looked horrified and as he looked in to help Silky, he fell in too!! WHAT WILL HAPPEN?!!!

Two days went by and all they got to eat was some bread with honey that the frog was holding in his hand when he fell in. The cat lady was really worried about Silky and made sure that all the other cats were safe indoors because she didn’t want to loose any more cats! And while she was crying she was looking at the old tea pot and she said to her husband “this tea pot is quite old and not wanted, lets smash it!!” and so she did! THE FROG AND SILKY ARE SAVED!!!!!!!

"The Haunted House of Horror Ville" by Anya, Age 9, Class 3

This is a horror story I wrote myself!!! Called 'The Haunted House of Horror Ville' - it is a page of a little girl’s diary

Dear diary,
One day at horror Ville primary school, everyone was ignoring me. So after school ended I slid through the back door quietly and went up the huge heavy steps to the haunted house of horror Ville that every one thinks has been abandoned but… I thought there was something strange up there, something really strange but I hadn’t thought about what it could be. No one had ever been in there so no one really knew what was inside. So I opened the big heavy door shivering with a worried look on my face not knowing what was going to happen if I went inside. Now I was shivering so much that I looked like I was going to erupt like there was a volcano inside me. I walked in to the old fashioned house and went up the stairs to a bed room with two coffins in it and I opened them. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Inside were two vampires (a man & a woman) who had great big fangs and cloaks that went down to their feet. Then I noticed that one of them had an amulet round their neck (the man) I put my hand out to grab the amulet but the vampire grabbed my arm and I struggled to break free. Then, when I did break free, he disappeared and when I turned around to run he was in front of me. There was no-where to run so I jumped out of the window .Luckily I didn’t get hurt because the house wasn’t very tall but I did have a couple of scrapes and bruises. Although that didn’t matter because at least I was out of that horrid old house. The next day I told all my friends but they didn’t believe me… would you?
